Design and data analysis

Design and data analysis
Microarrays or chips are solid platforms to analyze the differential expression of genes and to evaluate DNA losses or gains. In the case of gene expression microarrays, the experiments are basically performed by measuring hybridization level between a specific probe and the target molecule (gene), generally through fluorescence and image analysis that indicates the gene expression level. In expression analysis studies, functional genomics or transcriptomics, exist a large amount of available microarrays that can be separated in two categories: cDNA microarrays and high density synthetic oligonucleotides microarrays. Microarrays allow compare two samples in the same microarray by using a two colors strategy with a very specificity of hybridization. There are several companies that have developed DNA microarrays:

  • Affymetrix
  • Agilent Technologies
  • CombiMatrix
  • GE Healthcare (antes Amersham plc)
  • GenePix
  • Illumina
  • Nimblegen Systems
  • Ocimum Biosolutions (adquired for MWG Biotech)
  • Roche Diagnostics

In SINAE we are expert in study design and data analysis through microarrays. SINAE offers different services in this type of projects in which a genetic expression analysis through microarrays is being realized or in which we pretend to perform it:

  • The experimental design
  • The number of samples that are really necessary
  • The counseling about the recollection and treatment of samples, DNA or RNA for the genetic analysis
  • The establishment of suitable number of technical replicates to obtain results with statistically significance
  • The convenient platform for the specific study
  • The data analysis after gene expression experiments
  • The validation of the results through another methods
